How It Began

As we commemorate Black History, I am honored to share my personal story as a highly acclaimed doll maker and puppet builder who has garnered recognition for my achievements in the industry. My path to success began when I was welcomed into the esteemed Jim Henson Muppet Workshop® and received a coveted Daytime Emmy® award for my contributions to the renowned CTW Sesame Street®. My experience as a collector and designer of dolls has allowed me to create highly sought-after collectible dolls, including the iconic Princess Diana Birthday Commemorative doll for Alexander Doll Company.

Despite my success, I faced a significant challenge in creating dolls that reflect the world’s diversity. After a young family member commented on a white action figure being superior to a black one, and with the ongoing racial tensions and the heartbreaking murder of George Floyd, I was motivated to take action. This led to the creation of Black Dolls Matter®, a registered trademark dedicated to promoting a positive self-image and perception among African Americans by creating a world where black and brown dolls are widely available and celebrated.
