A Legacy Acknowledged
Black Dolls Matter® is honored to share that its Founder, Mark Ruffin, has been selected to receive the Legacy Award at the 2026 Detroit Doll Show.
The recognition affirms decades of work centered on representation, cultural preservation, and joyful affirmation for Black children through dolls and storytelling.
Dolls have always served as vessels of memory, care, and imagination. Through Black Dolls Matter®, this work has grown into a global movement advocating for inclusive toys, intergenerational healing, and the preservation of Black doll history.
This acknowledgment reflects not only an individual journey, but a collective commitment to ensuring that Black children see themselves reflected with dignity, beauty, and joy.
The Legacy Award will be presented on November 21, 2026, at the Detroit Doll Show in Detroit, Michigan.
Legacy is built by what we choose to honor—and what we choose to pass forward.
